Built to order for Albert Parkinson MBE and supplied new via Jack Barclay. There had been significant attention to detail in the specification of 382 BLU. It was fitted with lightweight front seats with tilting backs and Chapman Wormgear adjustments among other features; the rear seats had been made to be as wide as possible; elbow rests fully adjustable, sunvisors in special Tudor type two. The car was also fitted with Richmond safety Harness to the front seats, power windows and power aerial. The Bentley was completed on February 1961 and delivered to Harrogate, Yorkshire.
Design no.7514 was H.J. Mulliner’s replacement for the famous Fastback design. For the S2 Continental, the design featured a lower radiator grille and bigger, less inclined, boot-lid incorporating the number plate and reversing lights, as already seen on the S2 Flying Spur. The boots interior area was completely re-designed with a horizontal boot floor and the spare wheel positioned underneath for increased luggage capacity. The most evident change was the deletion of the unusual peak on top of the front wings and the rear fins. Design no.7514 truly was one of the greatest postwar Bentley designs, becoming one of the most successful coachbuilt models of the Silver Cloud and S-Type chassis range with a total of 97 cars being constructed, 71 in right hand drive and the remaining 26 in left hand drive. It was significantly more contemporary than the Fastback it is replaced and offered greater practicality with more cabin space, boot space and vastly improved visibility too.
This example stands proudly, the panel fitment is superb, the swage lines crisp and crucially sharp down both sides of the car just as it did the day it rolled off the H.J. Mulliner factory line in Chiswick. Chromework has been restored to a mirror finish - flawless, the Wilton carpets are original and the new white wall tyres really complete the look. Over the years, this example has formed part of some most prominent and prestigious collections. On file we have factory records, the original bill of sale, invoices spanning from the 1960's to the present day including works carried out by marque experts P&A Wood.
On the button and ready for its next adventure down the Routes-Nationales with their tall poplar trees lining the long straights, this Bentley is just waiting to do what it was built to do:- Grand tours on the continent.
