Full stainless steel hand made exhaust system running from manifolds to tail pipes - made to last a life time and give the car a raucous pitch on full tilt. Gleaming GKM 15'' alloy road wheels finished in the correct combination painted centers with gleaming polished outer rims on matching AVON speed rated tyres. Twin Cibi driving lights, enlarged power bulge bonnet, blanketed off front grill (body colour) and rear fliptail spoiler smoothly integrated into the alloy body which gives the car it's unique look.
With the resurrection of the Vantage name in 1977, our car #11841 was the 1st of the 11 US delivered Fliptail cars. Completed 6th January 1978 and shipped to Aston Martin Limited USA in that same month of 78. The car stayed within factory ownership until late October 78 where it is believed the car was used to showcase the new Vantage styling twinned with its exquisite levels of workmanship and engineering - this was Britains First Supercar that could out run a Ferrari!
“Well, the Aston Martin really was a tremendous surprise. To think of a car of this size and shape – not to say there’s anything wrong with the shape - but it’s such a big car and to imagine what it must take to go 175mph is almost unthinkable. It just has a tremendous feeling of power and quality.” Phil Hill after reaching 175mph testing a V8 Vantage for US magazine Road & Track.
Fast-forward to August 1993 Aston Martin historian and world renowned author of 'The Aston Martin V8 Register' acquired #11841 where the car had travel just 31,475 miles from new. Under his 19 year ownership the car underwent significant restoration works. The coachwork was stripped to bare aluminium and repainted. Today it is gleaming and has mm perfect panel fitment. The engine was dispatched across the 'Big Pond' and sent back home to the UK. Special parts were supplied by AML Chief Engine Engineer Arthur Wilson to build it to full X-Pack specification with completely new internals resulting in 430bhp on dyno testing.
Total mileage covered is just 52,816 from new and just 21,341 miles since the engine was rebuilt and the car restored. In recent years the car has formed part of a significant collection in Germany and then Scotland where the car was kept in climate controlled storage. On file we have the complete ownership listing from day one to the present, invoices spanning the decades, owners handbook and individual embossed leather wallet plus a complete tool roll and fitted cover.
