Porsche’s long-running 911 arrived in 1964, replacing the 356. In 1970 the engine underwent the first of many enlargements – to 2.2 litres. The S’s power output then was 180bhp, increasing to 190bhp with the introduction of the 2.4-litre engine for 1972.
Tenacious adhesion, responsive steering, very good flexibility, superb brakes, meticulous finish and a solid feel were just some of the virtues praised by Motor magazine in its test of a Porsche 911 in 1973. This Porsche 911 “S” Sunroof Coupe is an exceptional example and was the last of the early production 911 S’s. In excellent mechanical condition with a powerful 2.4 litre engine (producing 190 bhp), 915 5-speed manual gearbox that shifts smoothly and four-wheel disc braking system, it is a truly fantastic driver.
Only 1,430 “911S” Coupes were built in the year 1973, approximately only 10% of these where fitted with the special order electric sunroof. Additional options include; factory sports seats, limited slip differential, “S’ front spoiler, driving lights, Fuchs alloy rims and original toolkit.
