This extremely rare and exceptionally original Mercedes-Benz 300SE convertible has only covered 53,000 original miles. It is one of the very last of this flagship model built, as the 300 SE was discontinued in late 1967.
The car is completely genuine, sharing the engine with the beautiful 300SL Gullwing, this example would be a prize exhibit in a motor museum as it is definitely one of the very best, most original and correct examples in existence. Coachwork on the car is original and near on perfect, showing no sign of damage under close inspection and the Chrome work remains bright. The underside inner-wings, bulkhead and boot floor are all original and have never been welded, this is unheard of on a car of this age.
The 300SE employed a fuel-injected version of Mercedes-Benz’s 2,996cc and 170bhp engine. Featuring Mercedes-Benz’s hydro-pneumatic self-levelling system, the 300SE was good for 120mph. With the much-preferred automatic gearbox and power steering, our car drives effortlessly; it can be easily argued that the Mercedes 300 SE was a car before its time. Even under load, the vehicle runs with the correct water temperature and oil pressure. Under the bonnet, the engine bay is delightfully presented and remains the same as the day it left the factory in 1967.
Finished in the stylish colour combination of Moss Green with its original and broken in Cognac hide, complemented with a Tan mohair soft top. The seats are in good condition and most importantly the original leather is soft and supple, providing a luxurious and comfortable ride. With the roof up, the car is equally as impressive. The Tonneau cover and Tan mohair hood are both original and the rear window remains undamaged. Adding to the vintage feel of the car is the original Becker Mexico radio/cassette player.
Our Mercedes sits on its original 13” wheels with two-piece wheel trims and correct matching tyres. Also included with the vehicle is a matching spare wheel, original tools and the original jack.
Presented complete with the factory issue book-pack, original stamped service book with data-card, plus the original buff logbook. The file also contains a copy of the Summer 2015 edition of Classic Mercedes Magazine, featuring AUB 243E as the subject of the front cover story.
Today, classic Mercedes Cabriolets are highly sought after and the top of the range example offered here is perhaps the finest right hand drive example for sale anywhere in the world today!
