In 2004, Ferrari’s line-up was, with exception to the Enzo, looking a little dated with each car in their range all coming from the 1990s. And the oldest category car which needed to be replaced was the 2+2 which meant replacing the Ferrari 456 which had been in production since 1992. And so, Ferrari set this considerable task to Japanese Pininfarina designer, Ken Okuyama who had already paved the way for a new millennium of Ferrari products with the Enzo and the design language that came with it. And so, in 2004, Ferrari launched the elegant, sleek and sophisticated 612 Scaglietti, named proudly after the former design house responsible for some of Ferrari’s most iconic models of the Golden Age. Mr Okuyama did a fine job indeed.
Whilst the 612 was definitively modern in its styling, it also paid homage to classical Ferrari proportions from the 50s and in the subtle side scallops and headlight design, gave a nod to the stunning Ferrari 375MM commissioned by Roberto Rossellini for his Hollywood icon wife, Ingrid Bergman. Despite the classic elegance, the 612 was no dinosaur, being the second all aluminium Ferrari model and under its long swooping bonnet, cradled a 5.7 litre, 533 horsepower V12 that pushed the 612 to still impressive figures of a top speed of 199 mph and reaching 62 mph in just 4 seconds, numbers which still bring a trickle of sweat to modern counterparts and rivals.
612 bodies were produced in the former Scaglietti plant (a further tribute to its glorious namesake) in Modena before transport and completion at the main Ferrari factory in Maranello. Production lasted from 2004 to 2011 and in this time, a mere 3,025 were produced making the Scaglietti a rare beast indeed though, from 2008, their exclusivity only increased further. In 2007, the Scaglietti now featured a new SuperFast robotic (F1) 6-speed semi-automatic transmission, transforming the car for the better and thoroughly modernising the already impressive driving experience. Another welcome addition was Sat-Nav which helps de-age the 612.
As previously hinted, in 2008, Ferrari announced the One-To-One personalisation program which meant that from this point, all 612s were available only through special order, spelling the birth of Ferrari’s tailor-made program. Many more options became available and a testament to the brilliant OTO program and how special a car ordered through it could be is our stunning LHD 612 Scaglietti offered for sale here.
This Scaglietti, one of the first of the vastly superior OTO cars is finished in a mesmerising colour combination of Rubino Micalizzato over Nero Daytona two-tone with a gorgeous, quilted, full red leather interior with Carbon Interior Trim. The specification is more or less identical to the highly desirable Sessanta, with the only major difference being the lack of the interesting though sometimes temperamental electrochromic glass roof, and in today’s case, not commanding the same heavy premium of a Sessanta.
We are delighted a car that is absolutely pristine and could’ve roared out of Maranello only yesterday, having covered a mere, conscientious 11,000 miles hence the car is in such a beautiful state today.
We are proud to present such a magnificent car for sale and it is rare to come across such a truly special Ferrari. Anyone would struggle to find such a unique and highly-specified Ferrari for sale, especially at such a price point, especially when one considers not only the vast premium for not only a Sessanta, but buying a brand new bespoke tailor-made Ferrari would cost well over £200,000 at least and most likely, over £300,000.
Still as impressive a sight on any road as the day it was built, this Scaglietti would be the perfect addition to the fleet of any Ferrari connoisseur or even someone looking for a stunning Grand Tourer to use as a daily driver, this 612 is the car for you. Whether you’re planning on a shopping trip to Harrods in Knightsbridge or cruising menacingly down the Cote D’Azur in the South of France, this car is suited to the job. If one has any qualms of the reliability or practicality of the 612, note that in 2008, two Scaglietti’s successfully embarked on the Magic India Discovery Tour, driving from the North to the South of India through thoroughly testing conditions, covering 11,000 kilometres over 72 days. Few supercars of such prestige could survive such a precarious expedition, not to mention in such comfort
