The British car manufacturer Alvis was always synonymous with exceptional craftsmanship and performance, and the final models produced by the company were no exception. Today the remaining Alvis examples are bastions of Britain’s incredible automotive history, and have become an increasingly popular classic car to collect. The classic Alvis TD 21 is no exception and is the perfect car for any classic car enthusiast.
In 1954, production of Alvis 3-litre cars ended and it might have been the end of the company if it wasn’t for the Swiss coach-builder Graber, who had been implemented his own elegant and modern designs to the Alvis chassis. Alvis and Graber would go on to build the cars under license, however, the first model (TC108G) proved to expensive to manufacture and only 17 examples were built in three years. Alvis bought out the Graber rights and targeted producing their vehicle at a more reasonable cost.
In 1954, the iconic Alvis TD 21 was announced which benefitted from a strengthened chassis, sharp styling and increased interior space. It received excellent press, Autocar calling it “one of the most enchanting owner-driver cars imaginable”.
The stunning Alvis TD 21 Drophead Coupe for sale at DD Classics was first registered new in 1960, and over its lifetime it has enjoyed a continual and extensive programme of restoration to maintain its aesthetic brilliance and working mechanical order. This is supported by a substantial history file of receipts totalling nearly £70,000. The majority of restoration work was completed by specialists Foundry Classics of Surrey, and latterly Alvis marque experts, Red Triangle.
Finished in the beautiful colour scheme of Ice Blue metallic with a contrasting Navy Blue leather interior, this is a very well sorted Alvis, on the button and ready for a grand Summer tour. The Alvis comes fitted with wire wheels, reclining seats and a Borg Warner automatic transmission.
Supplied with a current MoT certificate and UK V5 document, this is amongst the finest examples we have seen, and suitable to grace any collection.
