Branded the million dollar car in 1991, the road going Jaguar XJR-15 was born through Jaguars rich heritage on track with their success at Le Mans in 1988 with the XJR-9.
Just 53 examples were produced by Jaguar together with TWR of Oxfordshire, of which around 25 were ‘street-versions’ with 5-speed all-synchro gearbox costing an extra £55,000, plus air-conditioning and leather trim. Each featured a 450-bhp mid-engined 6.0 litre V12, sitting in a complete carbon fibre body and carbon fibre/kevlar monocoque chassis. Weighing just 1,062 kg, this unique set-up for a road car was featured in The Jaguar Intercontinental Challenge, supporting the 1991 F1 Season at Monaco, Silverstone and Spa-Francorchamps.
This particular example is street version, chassis number 044 which was originally exported to Germany in 1991 where it lead a very sheltered life and was re-imported back into the UK in 2008, it read just 250 miles on the odometer. Since then, one owner has set about on a 6-year re-commission with XJR supremo Don Law Racing, including engine-management, clutch and suspension development, plus cosmetic refinements to get this unique model ready for the most distinguished Jaguar collector at a cost believed to be £98,000. Having only completed a mere 600 miles in total, this incredible example remains in fabulous condition throughout.
Finished in Mauritius Blue with a remarkable interior of exposed carbon fibre. The two seats are finished in grey leather and remain unmarked. The car still retains the over ear headphones, situated just behind the driver/passengers head rest.
Never has the phrase ‘road going racer’ been so appropriate, with phenomenal performace (0 to 60 mph in well under 4 seconds) but with exemplary manners for every-day street use.
Accompanying the car is the registration number “XJR 1S” as well as an original XJR-15 owners manual, the German registration document and magazines featuring this prestigious example.
